CHURCH COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS June 23, 2008
A preliminary proposal to reduce the outstanding building debt at the end of Capital Campaign III was discussed. A final proposal will be presented to the congregation with a strategy in place this fall.
Moved, seconded and passed (MSP) to change Open and Affirming Committee to Diversity Committee, a sub- committee of Church Council, to work collaboratively with Mission, Justice & Social Concerns and focus on a single issue in depth and over a period of time.
MSP to authorize a Policy and Procedure Audit Committee, a sub-committee of Church Council, to assess current policies and procedures and develop a comprehensive manual.
MSP to appoint a committee composed of Sharon Camblin, Pete Rittmueller, and Council At Large members to present a recommendation to Church Council at its July meeting for a process for appointing a Search and Call Committee.
MSP to adopt Conference salary/housing/benefits guidelines for Rev. Jane Sorenson as a full-time Acting Lead Pastor effective June 5.
The committee charged with hiring a second pastor will interview a candidate soon. It is hoped this person could join our pastoral staff by July 13. (Welcome, Savage!) Council reviewed all the notes and feedback from the neighborhood meetings. Future planning will address the needs of the congregation expressed at these gatherings. 145 people participated in the meetings.
