    CHURCH COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS
    August 25, 2008

    Excitement is building for the new church program year kick off on Sunday, September 7.

    We are moving forward on goals specified in our Church Profile.

    A "Summit" on Pastoral Care is scheduled to provide support for all involved in caring for our church family.

    A Bible Study based on lectionary readings is planned by Pastor Savage Frieze.

    Review and re-structure of our church organization continues with a new committee.

    Safety procedures will be reviewed and implemented with appropriate training.

    A sample narrative budget was reviewed with suggestions for revision.

    MSP (Moved, Seconded and Passed) to direct Budget Committee to continue work on drafting a narrative budget.

    A proposed Search and Call process and a time line were discussed.
    MSP to support and move forward with the proposals.

    Personnel matters were discussed.

    MSP to set Pastor Savage Frieze's housing allowance at $1,851.02/month consistent with IRS regulations.

    MSP to expand Pastor Savage Frieze's position to full time.

    MSP to pay Rev. Scott Opsahl for unused vacation time.

    Board of Trustees reports Memorial Funds ($6,044.14) are available for expenditure. Specific ideas and costs should be submitted in writing to the Board.

    MSP to allow Village Books to present Mike Farrell, author of "From Actor to Activist", at our church on September 23 sponsored by the Board of Mission, Justice & Social Concerns.

    Board of Adult Ministries plans fall programming theme of "Religion and Politics."

    Diaconate reports a very successful Worship in the Park.

    Stewardship Board continues its year round emphasis of stewardship and its relationship to our four Values of Worship, Spirituality, Social Justice and Community.

    Arts in Worship is seeking more variety with arts in worship such as including poetry.
