2011 New Orleans Mission Trip "As a young girl living in Kentucky, New Orleans held a special magic. It was the city down the rivers from my home and was the epitome of excitement, history, elegance, and mystery. Over the course of many visits, I came to love its music, great restaurants, street artists, and sometimes outrageous full throttle living. I remember the New Orleans World's Fair complete with kudzu sculptures of dragons rising out of pools and mermaid entrance gates. Even now, when I think of New Orleans, a smile comes to my heart."

-Nancy Hart, 2011 Mission Trip Member

Saturday, April 30, 13 members of First Congregational Church left for New Orleans to work for a week with the UCC National Disaster Ministries and the South Central Conference. They stayed at River Ridge Little Farms UCC church. They were there to assist people and the communities in reclaiming whatever part of their lives is possible. They have the opportunity to be “Bearers of Hope” and a presence that demonstrates God’s companionship as the people and communities are empowered to rebuild their lives.

2011 New Orleans Mission Trip members are Marty Sandoval, Mallory Sandoval, Brian Hoffman, Denise Hoffman, Nancy Hart, Barb Storms, Amy Wolsdorf, Ron Pryde, Randy Minkler, Tara Olsen Allen, Jerry Couchman, Joe Nyberg and Sharry Nyberg.

"Although Katrina's destruction of New Orleans came at a time of great loss in my life, I can remember feeling how minor my problems were compared to the massive losses of the people of the crescent city. The images of a flooded New Orleans and thousands without homes and the basic necessities of life touched me deeply. At that time I was very ill and there was little aid that I could offer beyond prayers for healing and recovery. It is a major landmark in my own recovery that I am able to travel to New Orleans and to lend physical and spiritual support at this time. I am honored to join the mission trip to New Orleans and hope that the people that I meet there recognize that their losses are remembered, their courage and determination are witnessed, and that God is present in all of our lives."

Interested in trying something new?

Ever heard of a Drum Circle?

We are hoping to get a group of people together who are interested in experiencing the ancient ritual of drumming.

You don’t need any experience. You don’t even need a drum. You just need the curiosity and the courage to try!

We meet the second Thursday of each month at 7:00PM.

If you are interested please contact Tara at tara@fccb.net, or at the call the church at 734-3720.
