News from the First Congregational Church Library
Here are two recent additions to the church library:
In Timberline’s Embrace
In Timberline’s Embrace: What an Old Lodge Taught Me About What’s Worth Keeping, by First Congregational Church author Jean Waight, weaves stories of personal experiences at the famous lodge on Mount Hood with history and lore to create a compelling tale of place. Even if you have never visited the historic lodge, you will begin to feel at home in its timbered rooms as you read exciting and tender stories by our own master storyteller.
You’ll find In Timberline’s Embrace: What an Old Lodge Taught Me About What’s Worth Keeping in the FCCB Authors section of the church library.
Virus as a Summons to Faith
Every church leader and member is aware of the transformation of congregations brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. Walter Brueggemann’s short book, Virus as a Summons to Faith: Biblical Reflections in a Time of Loss, Grief, and Anxiety, was written in the midst of the pandemic, but continues to serve the church with solid Biblical thinking and theology as we continue to experience loss, grief, and anxiety as we enter into the post-pandemic world. Brueggemann issues a direct call to a right relationship with God and to a more caring, mutually beneficial relationship with all of creation.
You’ll find Virus as a Summons to Faith: Biblical Reflections in a Time of Loss, Grief, and Anxiety in the Biblical Studies section of the church library.
Donating to the Church Library
Thank you to the generous donors who have given books to our church library. Your donations help our limited funds from our annual book sale go farther, keeping our library up to date with materials that can circulate among members and friends of the church. Here are a couple of things you can do to help:
Include a brief review of the book you are donating. Our digital catalogue includes reviews by church members. When you explain why you think this book belongs in our church library, you help other members and friends explore it. Our library is circulating. We don’t have shelf space to become an archival collection. We can’t keep every book that is donated. When you give the reasons why you think a book belongs in the library, you help us discern which books to add and which to pass on to others.
We understand that moving or other life events might prompt you to bring boxes of books to the library, but our system works best when books are donated in groups of 2 or 3. When we receive a box, it can take weeks before we get the books sorted.
Thank you for your support of the FCCB library.
