Church Council met on Monday, October 27. Here are highlights.
1) The proposed 2026 Funding Plan Team was approved: Craig Jennings (Treasurer), Pat Elwell (Personnel), Darlene Mathias (Trustees), Dana Lehn (Mission & Justice), Jordan Sandoval (Vice-Moderator), and Diane Cooper-Schick (Moderator).
2) The proposal for a restructure of lay leadership to include the new role of Ministry Link was approved and will be shared with the congregation after worship on November 2.
3) As our building use policy was updated recently, questions have arisen pertaining to long-standing users of the building. Council reviewed current applications for building use and made determinations on how the current building use policy pertains to them.
4) Concerns have been raised about the financial and personnel practices of Interfaith Coalition of Whatcom County. Interested members of the FCCB congregation gathered after worship on October 19 to share concerns and draft motions to present to Interfaith. Council reviewed the concerns, context, and motions, and voted to approve the motions. As a result, at the October 30 meeting, FCCB will vote “no” on the proposed Interfaith budget. FCCB will bring forth motions to:
a) adopt a short-term, maintenance-only funding plan,
b) have a representative group of member congregations direct a planning process for moving forward, and
c) begin a collective planning process about the future of IFC, including all possible futures.
