The Red Cedar Zen Community is organizing more Interfaith Peace Walks and we would love the participation of you and your congregation. We are planning a shorter, 2.5 mi walk looping downtown Bellingham on Sunday, February 15. We will meet at Acid Ball Park at 1:30 pm, and then depart at 2:00 pm. We will also take our prayers on a longer walk February 21. We will start near the Peace Arch at 6:00 am and walk to the Ferndale Library, to the Arch of Reconciliation, and finish at Marine Park. Partial participation is welcome, with people joining at any of those stops for however long they are able.
These walks are mostly in silence, with time for shared praying and chanting as we walk. At the various stops we make there will be an opportunity for collective prayer. We walk with our prayers, mindfully touching the Earth with every step, offering an aspiration for peace and justice. This is a simple prayer, one we all share, regardless of denomination or creed.
We would be especial honored if any clergy in your community would join our walks and offer prayers in your own ways at the various stops. Our intention is for this to be an open, Interfaith Peace Walk where, whatever our beliefs or denominations, we can come together with simple prayers for peace and justice in these difficult times. Please reach out if you would be interested in helping to facilitate in this way. We will also be looking for a few volunteers at our walks for logistical support, especially the long walk.
