Our
Mission to New Orleans |
|
 |
| On April 19, 2009
eighteen volunteers from First
Congregational Church of Bellingham will travel to New
Orleans, LA, to work with the United Church
of Christ National
Disaster Ministries and South Central
Conference. |
 |
|
| As Disaster Recovery
work group volunteers, our willingness to
engage in this experience will allow us to
walk with others in New Orleans as they
rebuild their lives. In doing that, we will share
the
gifts, talents and resources we bring.
|
|
 |
| As an outside group, we
do not determine how a community recovers,
but assist people in the community in
recovering themselves.
Volunteers do not go
to "fix things" but to accompany people in
their recovery. Disaster recovery work
groups assist people and communities in
reclaiming whatever part of their lives is
possible.
We have the opportunity to be
"Bearers of Hope" and a presence that
demonstrates God's companionship as people
and the communities are empowered to rebuild
their lives. |
